Ian McDougall Launches a New CD

April 2, 2012

A new recording by trombonist Ian McDougall is always good news and The Very Thought of You, which will be officially launched at the University of Victoria this Wednesday evening, is no exception.

Recorded in Vancouver in September with McDougall’s usual cohort of great rhythm players and a lush 20-piece string section, the album features 14 classic ballads from the golden age of songwriting  arranged by McDougall and Toronto’s Rick Wilkins.

Moon River, It Had to be You, Someone to Watch Over Me, But Beautiful and Polkadots and Moonbeams are just five of the tunes included on what Dave Paulson of U-JAM says is one of the finest albums McDougall has recorded in his long career.

The album was conceived  as a fundraiser to benefit UVic Fine Arts students in financial need, hence the launch at the University Club’s Fireside Lounge. Ten dollars from the sale of each CD will go directly to an emergency fund established by McDougall and a donor group called the “Ten Mile Point Limited Partnership” which underwrote the recording.

The event doesn’t include a performance but you’ll have an opportunity to purchase the CD ($20), mix and mingle, and enjoy appetizers and the no-host bar while giving support to a very worthwhile cause. It gets underway at 7:30 pm.

You can hear a sample from the album and learn more at Ian McDougall’s website.
